Favorite Things About Camp

Camp Gilgal leaders Ilana Brickner and Leia Brown share their recent podcast interview.

Ilana and Leia were interviewed by one of our partner ministries, the Upside Down podcast, to talk about summer camp! Along with director Isaac Brickner, they reminisced about growing up at camp. They covered topics like belonging, identity formation, what it means to mentor kids together, and their most memorable funny moments! Here is a sneak peek of that conversation:

Ilana: Some of my favorite camp stories are when I get to give financial advice to the campers.

Isaac: Okay, give us one of your favorite memories.

Ilana: We had one camper who ran up to me and said, “Okay, how much money do I have in the bank?” I told her how much money she had, and I could see her doing math with her fingers and in her head. She said, “Okay, if I take out four dollars every other day, I’ll have enough to last me through the end of camp.”

And I said, “You know, that’s very wise of you.” And she said, “I’m too broke to not be wise.” So, now that’s a quote that Leia and I use often when we’re talking about our own budget for camp and things that we need!
